Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo celebrates the Blu-ray release of Cinderella with diamond gown collection

Alfred Angelo and Disney Consumer Products celebrate the release of Disney’s Cinderella Diamond Edition, available on Blu-ray™ for the first time this Fall, with a one-of-a-kind Cinderella– inspired bridal collection.

This unique line of limited-release wedding dresses consists of five exquisite styles in soft shades of blue.  Each gown represents the iconic Disney Princess character from a unique point of view, including timeless ball gowns that sparkle with every turn, and modern fit and flare silhouettes that look as if they were bathed in moonlight.

The Cinderella Diamond Wedding Gown Collection will be unveiled initially at Chicago Bridal market on September 29, 2012, where bridal shops and industry press will get the first view of the collection. The Cinderella Diamond collection will make its runway debut on October 12, 2012, at a press-only show during Couture Bridal Market in New York City.

Beginning in October, the Cinderella Diamond wedding gowns will be available to brides through special engagement bridal trunk shows to be held in Alfred Angelo Signature Stores and Alfred Angelo Partner Stores in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK that carry the 2013 Disney bridal line.  For tour dates and locations, brides can log on to alfredangelo.com.

Commenting on his design inspiration, Alfred Angelo vice president of design Michael Shettel says, “Ever since her launch onto the silver screen in 1950 girls around the world have grown up with Cinderella and idolized her.  I wanted to focus on many facets of her character as well as combine my research from the Disney archives.  I had access to original sketches and concept art for the film.  The sparkling glass slipper, Cinderella’s blue eyes and her blue ball gown set the tone for color, inspiration and themes that are carried throughout the collection.  I wanted to make each gown a unique interpretation and give brides-to-be several visions for their wedding day.”

“We are excited to collaborate with Alfred Angelo on another beautiful, timeless bridal collection and to bring Disney magic to brides on their special day,” said Robert Oberschelp, director of Disney Collections at Disney Consumer Products, “Cinderella’s story is a classic tale of romance and enchantment, and Alfred Angelo’s collection captures those magical storytelling details. The Cinderella Diamond Wedding Gown Collection is a fairytale wish come true.”

The “Glass Slipper” blue fabric is perfect for brides who embrace subtle color for their wedding.  But, each gown is also offered in ivory and white for brides with more traditional tastes.

Bridal Market: St. Patrick 2013 Couture Bridal Collection

The emphasis is on classic design, inspired by regal luxury and the romanticism of traditional European folktales. St. Patrick has combined these magical ingredients to create a fresh yet glamorous range of bridal gowns.

The 2013 collection features highly structured lines, close-fitting waistlines and very wide skirts, with curved lines and fine fabrics such as satin, taffeta, organza and Mikado silk adding a touch of style. Skirts flow out from the waist or volume is achieved through original draping, frills and cascades of gathers.

The sweetheart neckline is a favourite choice in this collection, although there are endless options including strapless gowns, round necklines with little sleeves, “V” necklines with straps and bateau necks. Sheer, embroidered tulle skims over the décolletage like an elegant, original second skin.

Other popular trends this season are hand embroidery and sumptuous appliqué. Gemstone embroidery, Guipur and Chantilly lace, rebrodé lace and chiffon flowers beautifully embellish these gowns.

The most traditional elements of bridal attire, the train and veil, are very strong this season. Magnificent chapel, royal, cathedral and sweeping trains are back to grace the nuptial proceedings. A generous veil is one of the bride’s most imposing accessories this year. In fact a lot of care and attention is given to the bride’s back. Stunning low-cut and lace-up backs, delicate buttoning and details such as bows make the bride a wonder to see from behind.

Bridal Market: La Sposa 2013 Bridal Collection

The new season’s designs from La Sposa’s are a beautiful tribute to the female figure, with imaginative necklines and fabulous belts. The 2013 collection is brimming with spring-like details to give brides a romantic look and an elegant bearing. This harmonious collection features soft fabrics such as chiffon, gauze, lace and tulle and choices with body and aplomb like taffeta, satin and Mikado silk.

There are innovations to the mermaid silhouette in the form of sheer ruffles and magnificent layers of tulle and Chantilly lace. The plain designs of straight-cut gowns are embellished with embroidery and gather that highlight the feminine figure.

The bride’s arms, shoulders and décolletage are very much on show this year. There are magnificent low-cut strapless, ‘V’, asymmetric and sweetheart natures are strong trends. Less revealing styles are achieved using sheer tulle to create subtle round, bateau and jewel necks, which beautifully frame the bride’s radiant face.

All these models this season emphasize the waist with an essential accessory: the belt. With flower and gemstone appliqués, these belts are made with the same fabric as the gown or added later, fashioned in satin or Mikado silk. Some even have a touch of color, such as vintage gold. Gemstone embroidery is also used to encircle the waist, creating a flattering corset belt effect.

All the firm’s bridal gowns are enhanced by chic design details, such as appliqué and white and silver gemstone embroidery, soutage, guipure, rebrodé lace, feathers and, most of all, flowers. The train is the most traditional feature chosen for all models, although there are also plenty of daring innovations such as lace up backs and pockets, as well as skirts with sensual side slits.

Comme des Garçons taps Rei Kawakubo for White Drama bridal couture

Rei Kawakubo’s cryptic clue for her new Comme des Garçons collection “White drama” was exactly what the show was. It tracked a progression through life’s dramatic way stations: birth, marriage, death and transcendence. In most traditions, “white” is considered the color associated with all of life’s moments. Some were as obvious: the duchesse satin for a wedding dress or the lace of a christening gown or the white flowers covering as if it were a death shroud. In this case for Kawakubo his primary focus was bridal.  No matter this collection was interesting and truly a state of mind.

Several of the brides appeared wearing white go-go boots that were a throw back to the 1960’s. However there was duchess-satin, tulle, crochet yards of lace and dozens of silk roses throughout the collection.  The one thing in most instances absent…the hands of the models.  They were hidden by extremely long trumpet sleeves or trapped inside of a cape – almost straightjacket like. The image was truly of a women willingly walking toward ritualized helplessness. Interestingly enough Adrian Joffee (Rei’s husband and business partner) suggests the collection is “Everything that makes you happy and sad in life.”

How interesting that some see marriage as a birth of a new life, while others see it as a death…of their past. No matter, Rei Kawakubo’s 2012 show provided some interesting elements; a cape, the white boots, perhaps the veils that a very modern bride might find interesting and would be bold enough to wear.
