Can’t believe six-months have come and gone since the last Fashion Week. Well it has been and that means NY has even more celebrities and star-gazer alike to Lincoln Center and surrounding venues. With all this attention focused on fashion, singers, actresses and athletes lend their support to the annual Heart Truth Red Dress Collection Fashion show.
The event held at the Hammerstein Ballroom also served as the unofficial kickoff to the start of Fashion Week inside the tents at Lincoln Center. Celebrities like Kellie Osborn, Brenda Strong, Soledad O’Brien, Wendy Williams and Olympian Gabby Douglas were among the fabulous women who leant their star power to raise awareness for women’s heart diseases.
Of course it is also a special time for designers like Reem Acra, Pamella Roland, Herve L. Leroux, Cushnie Et Ochs, Carolina Herrera, David Meister and many others.
Heart disease is the number 1 killer of women; 80% of these deaths are preventable. Since the first National Wear Red Day 10 years ago, tremendous strides have been made in the fight against heart disease in women, including:
- 21% fewer women dying from heart disease
- 23% more women aware that it’s their No. 1 health threat
- Publishing of gender-specific results, established differences in symptoms and responses to medications and women-specific guidelines for prevention and treatment
- Legislation to help end gender disparities
So as you’re checking out your favorite fashions this season, why don’t you also take a moment to do something for you and for those you love. Get checked out. Eat right; exercise and here’s hoping you stay Heart Healthy.
Let New York Fashion Week…begin.
