Wine Wednesday: Where can you find a drink in NYC?

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet but a perfect glass of wine is a gem to behold.

I love a beautiful Merlot and the way the bubbles ripple from fine French Champagne, just as I love a beautiful location.  Here in NYC there are a few that I frequent and as you’re picking your wine for your wedding, a wedding gift for the happy couple or a great hostess gift, these shops not only have places for sip & try, but also a great choice to buy from.  Why not help your favorite Oenophile start their own wine cellar or just pick up something new for your own special date night.

When you think of a true NYC Classic, Sherry-Lehman must come to mind.  This high-end shop has a wide selection of rare vintages. If you are an avid collector of new to the world of wine, their knowledgeable staff will be happy to help you find what you’re looking for.

This is one of the coolest shops in NYC.  From the curved walls to the ‘wine-room’ in the back, they display the bottles the proper way…horizontally. It has a real lay-back vibe yet they have anywhere from 2,500-3,000 bottles and most are limited vintages from small vineyards.  What is really cool, their floor is rubber so if you happen to drop a bottle, it will “bounce”. Just don’t drop it too hard.

Walking into this store is a wine-lovers playground.  Their helpful displays have titles like “Poultry”, “Green”, “Explore” and many others. It’s one of the easiest ways to describe what the wines in that sections are best with or for. Love this very bright and open shop.

While walking in Soho I stumbled across this shop. Small yes, but the selection of Spanish wines and spirits is truly amazing.   What adds to the charm is the motorcycle in the store. This is a perfect stop for a picnic because their sister store Despana Foods, is right next-door with a great selection of all types of foods and cheese traditionally found in any market in Spain.

This is the only shop that stocks Chilean wines ONLY. That’s right they only sell wine from Chile in this very sexy glass shop.  They offer weekly tasting for those of you are saying, “I don’t know what wines from Chile taste like”. I can honestly promise, there isn’t a bad bottle in the bunch.

These are just a few of my favorite places in NYC.  Do you have a great wine hot-spot where you are?  Let me know.  I’ll make sure to check it out if I’m in your area.  Cheers!!
