Summer date night ideas

Forget spring, we’re getting ready for a HAUTE summer in NYC and if you’re planning your wedding, you maybe looking for ‘inexpensive’ alternatives for fun.  You remember…date night?  Well, these might help you plan the perfect evening for you and your special someone.

One, Two…Cha-Cha-Cha

Get your inner Dancing with the Stars on at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing.  For $17 you can have access to a different band every night during this almost month-long dance festival.  Don’t know how to shake your groove thing, take a 45-minute dance lesson and then really practice your dance moves with your partner.  A wonderful and inexpensive way to practice your reception moves under the stars.

June 27 to July 16, 6:30 p.m.; Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center; 212-721-6500; $17.

Movies under the stars

There is nothing more romantic than a picnic basket for two, a blanket and a movie under the stars.  Well, ok under the city lights.  In any case, there are several locations around NYC where you can see some movie classics from Ghostbusters to Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Easy Rider.

Start your week with movie Monday’s at Bryant Park and plan for a movie on Thursday before you head to the Hampton’s or the shore with Movies with a view in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Bryant Park, 42nd Street and 6th Ave. June 20-August 22

Movies With a View, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Thursdays at dusk, July 7 to Sept. 1; Pier 1 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, 2 Old Fulton St.; Free.

Bryant Park Between 40th and 42ns Street on 6th Avenue

Did you know that even in this Iron City, you can actually see the stars?  New this year (at least to me) is stargazing on the High Line.  Every Tuesdays at dusk and with thanks to this new beautiful oasis and the Amateur Astronomers Association you can spend the evening seeing beyond the city lights and dreaming of a universe far, far away.

Stargazing on the High Line, Tuesdays at dusk. Enter the High Line at 14th Street; 212-206-9922, Free.

No matter what you do this summer, there are lots of free or relatively free events in the city. Take advantage of these for DATE NIGHTS.  Remember all planning a wedding and forgetting each other, will not make for a happy couple.
