Vivienne Tam 2011 collection calls you home

“With so much technology and the fast pace we live, I actually wanted to go back to a time when people made their own clothes and were truly the stylish ones of the time.” Vivienne Tam

Vivienne Tam has taken something so simple and made it chic – Crochet and Macramé. Ms. Tam loves this handcraft and actually uses these techniques to make her own shoes and hand-washes.  It could explain why her colors are so warm, sun-kissed.  It’s based on her lifestyle.  The use of hand-woven, hand-knit, crochet is a trend I’m seeing in a few collections.

This season’s look is for the woman who loves to travel. Visiting a new destination and making it her new ‘home’ while she’s there.  She visits the flea markets, looking for something old that she can make new again.  There is an ease in the way she moves that no matter where she is, her clothes are of the city and she wears the clothes – not the other way around.  The Vivienne Tam woman is modern yet cares about the world in which she lives and it’s people.

Ms. Tam has asked us all to help the people who have been devastated by floods across Asia and are now homeless.  This collection is dedicated to the People of the Silk Road.
